Bringing Your Fantasy Characters to Life
Hi there! I'm Josh, the Fantasy Team Head Artist and Project Coordinator at Mini Freak Studios. When it comes to custom RPG miniatures, I'm your go-to guy. I've had the pleasure of working on a wide range of models from fantastic game lines such as Age of Sigmar, WizKids’ Dungeons and Dragons/Pathfinder Deep Cuts, Malifaux, Shatterpoint, Crisis Protocol, and many more.
My role not only involves crafting beautiful miniatures but also ensuring that every client gets the information they need, making the commissioning process as smooth as possible. If you're considering booking a commission with us, chances are you'll find yourself in contact with me at some point. I can’t wait to work together!
My Artistic Journey
I've been involved in art for as long as I can remember, starting with drawing at a very young age. In second grade, I unexpectedly took a college-level aptitude drawing exam simply because I wanted to draw the picture! Although the school wanted me to join their program, they soon realized I was just eight years old. Fast forward a few years, I transitioned to painting on canvas with watercolors and oils while also delving into digital artwork during high school.
Interestingly enough, I didn’t grow up in the miniature painting scene like many others. I only entered this exciting hobby in 2017 when my friends began to shift from Magic: The Gathering to Warhammer. They got me to try painting by giving me a 7th Edition Start Collecting Tyranids box and a few paints, and I've been hooked ever since.
My Painting Approach
My approach to painting has remained consistent since my childhood. I often use references to guide my artistic decisions. While most client projects are inspired by box art, I love it when I'm given creative freedom. Drawing from various photos and artworks, I apply color theory to create models that truly stand out.
My Role at Mini Freak Studios
Jesse took a while to convince me to join Mini Freak Studios, and now I make it my mission to keep him on his toes! My time here has fueled my growth as an artist, and I'm committed to sharing my knowledge with others.
